Bob turned professional in 1987, first being trained by Ces Waters, and after fifteen fights was a less than stellar 7-7-1. He started to hit his straps in the mid 90's and in April of 1998 pushed Joe Bugner to a controversial split decision at Carrara for the Australian and WBA-PABA titles. He later won the Australian title, vacated by Joe, in September 1998 by defeating Col Wilson on points before losing it to Kali Meehan.
In 2001 Bob regained the Aussie Title by halting local favorite Nathan Briggs in round six at Jupiters Casino. He then relinquished the belt by winning WBF regional titles. In 2003, he journeyed to Germany and on the under card of the first Beyer-Green fight lost to future WBA champ, the Russian giant Nicolay Valuev, on points over eight rounds.
He then returned to Germany on the Beyer-Green rematch where he lost a terrible home town verdict to then IBF number 12 Timo Hoffmann. In '05 at the Royal Pines Bob engaged in an epic with American Rob Calloway for the WBF world heavyweight title, going down on points after twelve hard fought rounds in one of the best heavyweight bouts ever seen here.
In his most previous bout, Bob lost on points to former IBF champ Frans Botha for the WBF title in July. A popular figure with the fans and an icon among Aussie heavies, Bob has four victories over current Australian Champion Colin Wilson who he challenges on Friday November 2nd Revenge or Repeat at Southport RSL and has faced a host of big names in Europe, and on more than one occasion has gone close to pulling off a world class win. He was a sparring partner for Mike Tyson in 2005.
